Action in April: Building Change Through Leadership, Sustainability, and Service

April is a month of awareness, action, and inclusion at Edufaith Educational Services. As spring continues, we are reminded that equitable systems must be intentional, responsive, and grounded in belonging. Observances such as Autism Acceptance Month, National Arab American Heritage Month, and the Month of the Military Child highlight the importance of advocacy, access, and culturally responsive support for all learners.

April also includes Easter Sunday on April 5, 2026, a time many families observe as a season of hope and renewal, and National Assistant Principals Week, April 6–10, 2026, which recognizes the leadership and dedication of assistant principals in supporting students, staff, and school communities. At Edufaith, we remain committed to helping families, educators, and leaders build environments where every student is seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

🎙 April's Spotlight: Edufaith Essentials Podcast

In this month’s Edufaith Essentials Podcast, Dr. Nakia is joined by Matthew Paneitz, educator, social entrepreneur, and founder of Long Way Home, for a powerful conversation on leadership, sustainability, and community impact. Matthew shares that his journey began in 2002 as a Peace Corps volunteer in San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala, where he witnessed extreme poverty and limited educational access, inspiring a lifelong commitment to service.

The episode highlights how Matthew turned vision into action by founding Long Way Home in 2004, a nonprofit dedicated to sustainable education and community development. Through innovation and environmental stewardship, Matthew and his team transformed over 550 tons of waste, including 35,000 used tires, into the Hero School—a green-built campus that stands as a global model for sustainability, education, and empowerment.

This inspiring conversation challenges educators and leaders to think beyond traditional solutions and consider how purpose-driven leadership can create lasting change. Matthew’s story is a reminder that even the greatest challenges can become opportunities to build hope, access, and transformation in our communities.

🌎 National CEC Conference – Strategic Leadership in Action

On March 11th, Dr. Nakia co-presented at the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah. The session, “Strategic Leadership and Disability Compliance: Making Sense of Reading Policy,” highlighted the important connection between literacy policy, special education compliance, and leadership systems that help ensure students with disabilities are not overlooked in reading reform efforts.

This presentation reflected the heart of the Essential Tips leadership series by translating policy into practical, school-based action for educators and leaders. It was an inspiring opportunity to share, learn, and continue advancing conversations that support inclusive and effective leadership. More pictures to come! A few are below!

🌟 Yes I Can Awards – Celebrating Exceptional Lives

On March 13th, Dr. Nakia served as Co-Chair and moderator for the CEC Yes I Can Awards, a special event honoring outstanding students with disabilities who demonstrated resilience, leadership, and achievement across academic, artistic, and community settings. The Yes I Can Awards served as a powerful reminder of why we lead—to ensure every student’s gifts are seen, celebrated, and supported.

It was an inspiring moment to celebrate exceptional youth and the impact of inclusive leadership on a national stage. More pictures to come, and Dr. Nakia will highlight the conference in the May episode of the Edufaith Essentials Podcast.

Essential Tip: Action in April Building Change Through Leadership

  • For Parents: Ask how your child’s school identifies and responds to academic, behavioral, or attendance concerns. Strong systems help ensure support is timely, clear, and consistent.

  • For Educators: Continue strengthening core instruction and classroom supports. When strong teaching and proactive practices are in place, interventions can be more focused and effective.

  • For Leaders: Use April to reflect on alignment across instruction, intervention, and compliance. Systems are stronger when leadership keeps access, communication, and student support at the center.

As we move through April, we do so with intention—strengthening systems of support, leading with clarity, and honoring the students and communities who inspire our work each day.

Welcome to April with Edufaith—where we do more than move forward. We move forward with purpose, action, and impact.

April Edufaith Essentials Podcast Summary
This month, Dr. Nakia interviews Matthew Paneitz, founder of Long Way Home, to discuss how education, sustainability, and service can transform communities. Matthew shares how his experience in Guatemala led him to create a nonprofit that turned waste into opportunity by building the Hero School, a green campus made from recycled materials. This episode offers an inspiring look at visionary leadership, community empowerment, and the meaning of creating meaningful change.

Action in April reminds us that meaningful change happens when vision meets action. In this episode, parents, educators, and leaders are encouraged to inspire service, connect learning to purpose, and build solutions that uplift communities.

For Parents:
Teach children that problems can become opportunities. Help them see that creativity, service, and compassion can make a real difference in their community.

For Educators:
Connect learning to real-world impact. Use examples of sustainability, service, and global leadership to help students see how education can solve meaningful problems.

For Leaders:

Lead with vision and action. True leadership is not just identifying challenges, but creating practical, lasting solutions that empower others.
