Our work as educators is immeasurable. Educators influence lives forever. Our responsibility is to teach all students who enter our classrooms with various talents, gifts, backgrounds, and disabilities. Teaching students with disabilities requires a distinct approach, resources, support, and knowledge. The National Center for Education Statistics reported that in 2020-2021, 7.2 million, or 15 percent of all public school students ages 3–21, received special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Additional data reveals a substantial increase in special education students spending time learning among their nondisabled peers rather than separate from them. Based on those rising statistics, many students with disabilities will receive education with general education content teachers.
Such topics and working with students with disabilities may seem overwhelming in an already daunting field. That is where this book comes in to assist. This book's rationale is to provide procedural insights, provide information about programs for students with disabilities, and serve as a resource for educators because all students deserve a positive, inclusive, and equitable learning environment.
